Second generation family business
It’s a story dating back to 1967, when the founder, our dad, Jan Paul Barnard moved to the small railway town Alicedale – and started the first factory working with mohair.
The Eastern Cape is renowned for its mohair, being home to the Angora goats who flourish in arid surroundings.
During the early years, all production was done by hand looms – providing work for the small rural town. Hand spun and dyed yarns were used to create beautiful mohair curtains, cushions and blankets for national and international markets. My mother Elsa, who was from Germany and trained as a fashion designer, designed the collections which included carpets, jerseys, knitting yarns and blankets.
Years later, machinery was incorporated into the production processes, opening up endless possibilities for the business.
The second generation has now proudly taken over the reins, creating quality heirloom products for generations to come. We are proud to continue this journey, and look forward to seeing the story unfold.
